Meet the Management

Chairman: Steve Barnes
Steve is the token northerner of the GVAC's committee, and began living in Suffolk over ten years ago joining GVAC in his first year here. Grabbed by the GVAC atmosphere, Steve became a Committee man in 2004 and took on the Secretary role in 2006.

Vice Chairman: Barry Miller
Having joined the Club around 9 years ago and initially helping with lake maintenance. Putting in countless hours' voluntary work, Barry was asked to take a position on our committee. Serving for 6 years (thus far) he has filled several roles, in addition to his current post; Chairman, Assistant Match Secretary, Junior Management Team and Vice Chairman. He completed his Level 2 Coaching in Angling Certificate in 2004.

Treasurer: Mark Brewster

A G.V.A.C. member for around twenty years, Mark was our assistant match secretary before taking on the role that nobody wants, from our only previous treasurer, Don Smith. With money in the bank, he and former chairman, Martin Wood, set about stocking the cormorant-ravaged Needham Lake, in an effort to improve, and maintain, the consistency of sport on this, our home water. The largest of the bream that the lake is now renown for, are fish that were stocked around fifteen years ago. These days, Mark continues his work as accounts manager, and has taken on the responsibility of overseeing grant awards, and completing related projects with the help of our committee.
Mark is our appointed site manager of Maypole Farm Lake, and as a Level 2 qualified coach, is also a member of our Junior Management Team. With G.V.A.C. now managing the Suffolk County A.A.A. junior squads, the workload certainly doesn't look like reducing!

Secretary: Vacant

Match Secretary: Bob Gunn
In addition to being our Match Secretary, Bob is G.V.A.C.’s first elected captain. With his applied blend of knowledge and diplomacy, Bob has proved to be a popular choice. He was responsible for introducing a new points system for all our league matches and is proof that ‘age and experience will overcome youth and ability’ … Most of the time, anyway!

Membership Secretaries: David and Christine Shipp
Proprietors of Bosmere Tackle and Bosmere Cycles, Needham Market, David and Christine have been unstinting in their support since G.V.A.C.’s founding. Bosmere Tackle often forms the hub of activity within the Club, and in recent years Christine has also taken the role of our Welfare Officer and, with our ‘three wise monkeys’ – see below! – completes the line-up of our Junior Management Team.

Disabled Liasion: Mike Bullock
More information regarding our involvement with the Suffolk Disabled Anglers Forum (S.D.A.F.) can be found here

Website Manager: Mike Bullock

A relative newcomer to G.V.A.C., Mike has been an active member for about three or so years. Keen on supporting the club and with an I.T. background, Mike was asked to take on maintenance of our website in late 2004. In 2006, the current incarnation of our website was unveiled. Mike's goal is to timely provide up-to-date information to our members (and potential members), through a quality website. When not head-down at a computer, you will find Mike helping coach the G.V.A.C. Junior Academy and S.D.A.F., helping out at working parties, fishing in our club matches (and occasional inter-club matches) and, if work and personal life allow, undertaking a couple of hours' pleasure fishing! He completed his Level 2 Coaching in Angling Certificate in November 2006.

Assistant Secretary: Martin Westlake

Assistant Match Secretary: Lee Cuthbert

Committee Member: Terry Reynolds

Having only recently returned to fishing after illness forced me to quit, I am grateful to G.V.A.C. for helping me back into a sport I have loved for many years. Nothing was too much trouble for the club with my reintroduction to fishing. I am now proud to be able to help the youngsters and give something back to the club.
My next ambition is to beat my daughter in a club match!

Junior Academy Managers: Steve Barnes, Mark Brewster and Barry Miller

All family men, Steve, Mark and Barry have taken the Club’s promotion of junior and intermediate activity to a new level. With Christine often controlling operations from the bunker, our Level 2 Coaching in Angling Certificate-holders, between them, bring well over half a century’s match fishing experience to the bank. All three have coached at regional level and their buzzwords could be: preparation, innovation and perspiration! From Nationals to opens, from lakes to canals, and from squatt to squid(!) these three have seen it and done it… And are now passing it on.
